On October 23, 1986, I was born in Calcutta (now Kolkata), India. From the beginning I had entrepreneurship in my blood, but I’ll get into that a bit later. My Grandfather both on my dad & mom side were entrepreneur. My granfather’s entrepreneurship rubbed off on my dad, which encouraged him to start his own Logistics (Transportation) business.
Entrepreneurship – since Childhood
Growing up, I always thought about what I could do and make some money. For some years I couldn’t come up with anything, but during my 7th Grade I started with selling plastic bags during Holi (festival of Colors), the same went on for 2 years and I realized I have to go for something new. This led me to start with selling Table Tennis balls to my friends and building people as we started playing the sport at our building compound. Both the business were seasonal and after a year or so I stopped selling both. During my 9th Grade I again put my hands on selling Aloe Vera Gel which was new at that time and was making fast money as I use to charge a premium. This went on for about half a year till the product was available at the local market.
The Corporate Life
Till my Final year of Graduation, Part Time jobs during vacation was kind off pass time for me which could fetch me some thousand bucks. After my graduation, I decided to get a “real” job. My first job was at Euro Offices which was into modular office furniture, the department I was selected was for Marketing, but I had been given work to resell their factory plot in Mumbai itself. As I wasn’t aware about real estate and didn’t take interest also, I wasn’t enjoying it and thought for a switch. After working for around 1 1/2 months, I switched to free lancing and started taking up assignments for a startup called Lemon, which is into Experiential Learning Activities. I was enjoying the work but before joining them as a full time, I thought of working under someone and take good experience which could help me. Then I joined a company named Concept Hospitality Pvt. Ltd and was working in Sales & Marketing department for one of their Hotels in Powai, Mumbai called Rodas. There I got a good exposure in Sales, Marketing, PR, Events, etc., all thanks to my Sales & Marketing Manager Ms. Anjali Naik because of whom I learned the tricks of Marketing. After taking experience of 6 months I then joined the company Lemon (now Edutrotters Pvt. Ltd) and started handling the Marketing department for them. I had to approach Institutes and make the mgmt understand the concept of Educational Travel. Within the span of 3 yrs (till date) I/We have been successful to reach and cater to more than 40 diff cities in India with our different Experiential Learning activities. Currently I am also consulting a startup (of my friend) from Pune which is into Designing, Branding and Corporate identity.
I believe Entrepreneurship is within us, I love being an entrepreneur in my own way and will keep helping start-ups / corporate / NGO’s / etc., in some or the other way in coming time.
I hope my story inspires you in some way. Just believe in yourself and love what you do.
